Zac had humble beginnings. Born the son of a poor Ecuadorian farmhand, he learned early on the value of an honest day’s work…
Seriously though, Zac was a loving husband, father of three, son and brother (though he’s helplessly white). He did actually spend most of his years growing up in Ecuador, the son of James and Sharon Smith who were missionaries there. He met his wife Mandy after moving to Arizona and starting college. Soon after that, they were married raising three kids of their own – Lizzy, Jake, and Luke.
Zac and Mandy seemingly have nomad blood running through them which is probably why you know them or of them. Over the course of their 11 year marriage, they moved from Arizona, to Colorado, back to Arizona, to California, back to Colorado (Colorado Springs and Castle Rock that time) and most recently landed in South Carolina which apparently is the jewel of the South to hear them talk about it.
If you had the privilege to know Zac, you know that he had an electric personality. He befriended everyone he encountered and left an indelible impression on them. His sense of humor – unique, clever, and dry all at once. His faith in God was perhaps his most endearing quality. Throughout this trial he was faced with, his faith did not waver and he continued to teach us all how to be better humans. He was also a musician. He could play several instruments well but more than that, he was a student of music. Also a fan of anything geeky. Well, most things. He spent his entire career in IT and was finally recognized for both his technical prowess and commitment to the Lord by being hired as the IT Director at NewSpring Church in Anderson, SC. Shortly thereafter, his hard work and talent was acknowledged by being appointed Central Operations Executive Director.
Of course you probably already knew all that or else you wouldn’t be on our site. To know Zac is to love him. His family needs that love more than ever right now. You can show them your support and love by donating to this fundraiser. No gift is too small, any and all support is greatly appreciated.
